About

Hitiri Plant Nursery is managed by Allan Kirk and Petra Specht. They have both had long careers in planting restoration, riparian and conservation blocks and are committed to working in the environment. Allan spent 32 as a soil conservator working to reduce erosion and enhance the biological, physical and chemical properties of our soils.  Allan used restorative and conservation plantings to support landowners in their quest to be good stewards of their soils. Petra comes from extensive work in conservation and continues her work as a contractor advising on catchment management.

Hitiri Plant Nursery grows trees suited to the Taupo climate, from the searing sun to the heavy frosts our trees have been hardened by their environment. We grow a narrow species range to support colonisation of sites that support nature’s own regenerative processes.

We use the Ellepot System to propagate and grow plants. More information on this plastic reducing and innovative system can be found here.

Our aim is to produce plants at an effective cost that will thrive in the environment.

Hitiri Plant Nursey is certified with Plant Pass.

Plant Pass is a voluntary certification scheme for New Zealand plant producers recognising good biosecurity practice and providing assurance for plant buyers. It’s designed to harness the critical skills and observations that exist in the plant production industry to strengthen biosecurity.
